My U-card has stopped working - how can I re-set it?

If your U-card is not granting you access to a library or study centre, the access might have dropped off the card and it will need to be re-initialised. Here are instructions on how to do this -

  1. Present the U-card to a silver-coloured Salto online reader.  These are identified with the UCard logo and are positioned at the entrances to all of the main University buildings.

  1. Hold the card against the reader for approximately 10 seconds. Keep the card stationary.

  1. When a card is presented to a Salto reader for the first time it will start to flash blue as data is updated onto the card. Once the blue light stops flashing (it can take up to 10 seconds) the colour will change to either red or green.

  1. If the light turns green, access has been correctly assigned and the system is fully configured. Subsequent door access will consist of a short blue flash and a green or red flash depending on access rights.

  1. If the light turns red but allows entry, this indicates that the card has access to the main doors but not to any internal (offline) readers.

  1. If this doesn't work and the card still isn't granting access, the U-card holder will need to visit Card Services at Royal Fort Lodge (see here for location and opening times - www.bristol.ac.uk/cardservices/). Card Services can check the U-card for access and then reprint a new one if necessary (there shouldn't be a charge for this if the card is malfunctioning).
